Tell us how you got to this milestone.
We’ve been measuring and reducing emissions from our operations since 2020 and in 2021, after effectively eliminating scope 1 and 2 emissions, we’ve broadened our scope to measure more of our scope 3 emissions. We’re looking forward to finalising our Climate Action Plan, which will give us a multi-year roadmap to continue reducing operational emissions while we grow our business and impact.
What were the easy wins?
Switching to 100% green power for our Canberra office and 100% offset electricity in Sydney.
What were the barriers, and how have you worked to overcome them?
As a small office-based business with no energy generation, no fleet and an environmentally-conscious team, almost all our emissions are scope 3, with the majority originating from the goods and services we purchase. There are a few easy wins left to help us reduce emissions quickly and simply, and now the hard work begins - to reform our supply chain to preference suppliers with lower or net zero emissions.
What’s the next step for Future Super?
We’re currently finalising a Climate Action Plan. This will outline our multi-year roadmap to reduce emissions over time, while still growing our business and the impact of our investments, which are designed to fight climate change and inequality.
What are your climate priorities in the next 5 years?
An emissions reduction plan, informed by Science Based Targets, that will continue to reduce our environmental impact. We’ll continue to offset our unavoidable emissions with high quality carbon offsets with organisations whose values align with our own, like the Aboriginal Carbon Foundation.
What do you want to achieve by 2030?
A truly climate positive business, operating in a world where most people in Australia understand the power of their super, and understand the impact that the choice of their investments can have to reduce climate change and inequality.
We believe that responsible investment can deliver competitive returns for members and build a climate positive future.
